April 17, 2010
On April 17, 2010 there were 45 churches involved in over 180 different projects from three service hubs around our community with over 2100 volunteers serving. We include projects in 8 different areas of service impacting the lives of over 10,000 people in our communities.
The areas of service were Prayer walking, construction, block parties, basic service projects (such as giving away water and serving lunch to low-income housing residence in Johnson Towers and Todd Towers), in house packing projects (kits and gift packs to give to people in nursing homes, military, homeless, hospice, National Children’s Advocacy Center, fire stations, schools, nursing stations in the hospitals, and many others), ministries and agencies (such as Second Mile Ministry, Manna House, Jehovah Jireh House, Salvation Army, Downtown Rescue Mission, CASA, Friends, Inc and many others), adopting schools (eight this year), and environmental projects (such as Operation Green Team projects, Flynt River clean up, and cleaning up trails on Monte Sano in the Land Trust and general clean up projects in our communities).
Our appreciation goes out to all the thousands of volunteers and for the wonderful work of the coordinators and leaders of the hub sites.
