NEW 2011 EASTER CROSS PROJECT – free crosses to all churches in our area

This year we are making plans to make and provide small yard crosses along with the draping cloths (purple, black, and white) as a large Serving the City project. Each hub site and some individual churches would cut out the wood for the crosses, cut out the draping cloths, and pack the hardware and instructions for putting the cross up. Then churches in our area would be invited to pick up as many crosses as their church needed to provide to their members. Church members would put up the cross in their yard on the Saturday before Palm Sunday. The draping cloths would be changed at the appropriate times.

We are excited about having the crosses in yards all over our area and the visual impact on our communities. Please help spread the word that the crosses will be available free of charge in bundles of 25 crosses the week of Monday, April 4 through Friday, April 15. The optimum time to pick them up would be April 4 through the 8th. That way you would have them available to pass out to your congregation on Sunday, April 10, a full week before Palm Sunday.

We will mail out a letter in early January to each church asking them to pre-order the number of crosses their church would need. We would reserve that number for your church. All other churches and individuals would be on a first come, first serve basis. To find out more information on the crosses you may call Mike Pearce at 256-428-9448 or email at mike@fbchsv.org. You will be able to reserve your crosses in mid-January.

Our History

Pastor Quotes:

"When I think of serving the city as one, I think of two things, the first thing is "Service" and the second is "Unity".  Jesus himself prayed that we may be one, and because we are His, we are servants as well.  Therefore, for us to serve this city as one is the will of God."
Pastor of Union Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Dr. O Wendell Davis
